So Fabes and I got into this whole ‘helicopter’ drama a week ago. It’s one of those spur of the moment things that guys go into. It was a hassle free mental free process…
- Like the chopper
- Buy the chopper
- Play with the chopper
The chopper…
In case you’re wondering…NOOO we didn’t buy a real one. Just a remote controlled one. Initially went to Sungai Wang and saw a few of these stores selling helicopters… checked out the price… and went straight for the largest one… YES we are KIASU and NO we don’t have money growing on trees… it’s just that it wasn’t really that expensive. I expected it to go into many many hundreds and thousands but no… the 1st one was just 200+! We later found it wasn’t the real deal. The ‘actual’ remote controlled helicopters can go side to side, turn left, right, up and down… the one we bought let’s just say had a strange looking fan at the back…
The 2nd chopper…
So we got suckered… then we checked out the real deal… BEHOLD the one that burnt a hole in each of our pockets – the WALKERA LAMA 400D!
Test flight…
After testing a few times… I only managed to glide… around the floor – like a hovercraft which was really sad. I blamed it on the space I had… so the following morning… I went to Sri Pentas – we have this HUGE COURT on the top floor… and there I did my first ever ‘proper’ test flight… I was alone… so I flew… crashed a few times but it was fine… and suddenly… LIFT OFF! WOOHOO! I landed the plane and called Phat Fabes…
Wrong move…
I called him, he came up… and say “dude… FLY LAR”… I took the remote and confidently hit flew… within seconds… CRASH! STRAIGHT INTO THE WALL – thank GOD there was a net… that caught it… propellers or whatever you call it were caught on the net, parts of the wing broke… I took it into may arms, tried to untangle it… The wrong move was to clip the remote to my armpit… while holding to the part where the blades turned… my armpit hit the ‘accelerate’ or ‘lift-off’ or ‘spin VERY VERY VERY fast’ okay.. fine, it’s called the throttle… and it went spinning with my finger inside… I’ll let the rest of the pics describe the rest…
Parts of the chopper than broke

It’s been erm… 4 days… and it hasn’t healed… there’s a gaping hole on my finger… so the next time you fly… fly the small ones first… don’t be kiasu like us…
PS… in case you’re wondering how my baby was supposed to fly… check out some of the vids below… (done by pros of course
