How a Christmas tree can make a grown man cry?

So it’s been almost 2 weeks now since the Fly FM Pagi Show decided to do something good. Yeah, Fabes, Nadia & I (including our Amrita) have not been the nicest people on the face of this planet… so we decided to make up for all the ‘evil’ deeds.

We thought of ways to give back – then this idea came about… “Hey? What about a Christmas tree and we’ll let the Rakyat (People) of Fly FM decide how it’ll be decorated, what presents will be under the tree” and we’ll give it to a home?”

So we started off by buying the tree… then we decided which home we’d give the tree & presents to… it was decided :

That said, our Producer – Amrita setup the tree… and a week went by… we only got 1 bear and 2 cards…

When I got back on Monday after a week’s break… I saw the tree and to me, it was one of the saddest looking trees I’ve EVER seen… it had no lights… no decorations… nothing… just a plain green tree – let alone fake. It was so sad… even the ONE bear that was given to us looked lonely…

BUT… everything changed… that Monday afternoon… after a few more pleas on air… gifts starting pouring in – in truckloads!

the tree had lights and finally, the lonely bear had not one but a few FRIENDS!

and it didn’t stop there, the gifts kept pouring in… we had stationary, clothes, toys, TVs, DVD players… IT WAS AMAZING! We got loads of decorative lights after mentioning that our tree was ‘light’ less & got to a point where we didn’t know how else to decorate the tree! Nadia got so excited that she broke a bulb…

It’s been close to 2 weeks now and I must say, the response has been really encouraging. Thank YOU so much for contributing and for helping those who are in need in this season of giving. We are still looking for more gifts, toys and amenities for the home as our dateline is the 2nd of January 2010. For these kids in the Cornerstone Home, there is never enough.
